The heroes begin the trek to Drummond's Point. They pass through the village of Woodhaven where the talk of the town is the early coming of winter and discussion about an early harvest to salvage what they can. The heroes advise the people of Woodhaven to get their harvest in early and to prepare for a long hard winter. The people of Woodhaven have had no contact with anyone from Drummond's Point in a couple of weeks. Rumor has it that the Witch Wood has swallowed the town.
Continuing south they arrive in Solace to find a similar story. The early coming of winter is the biggest news and the lack of travel to and from Drummond's Point is a minor footnote. The heroes meet Xandar Pathfinder, an elf that claims as friends the elves of the Witch Wood. He says that the Witch Wood has not moved against Drummond's Point, but that a great tangled briar forest has blocked the road. He has seen the briar and will not enter it.
The Silver Elites make their way farther south and come to a great briar forest blocking the road, just as Xandar claimed. The road continues into the forest and looks like the entrance to a tunnel through the tangle. They make their way in hoping to find what has happened in Drummond's Point.
Along the way the heroes are assaulted by a pair of feral elves and their plant allies. After defeating them Aeral identifies the elves as Dusk Elves from the Feywild. She recognizes some change in them: their eyes are changed to black irises on deeper black vertical slit pupils and they have sharp teeth. An odd situation no doubt.
Deeper into the briar the heroes face off against devils and skeletons. They take from a pair of fallen imps two gold necklaces strung with pearls and marked with a strange magical sigil. Aeral recognizes that the necklaces are a mark of ownership and that the sigil probably identifies the devil that owns these imps.
Continuing along the road they begin to suspect the trail does not lead to Drummond's Point. Using their knowledge and skills they determine that the forest is moving about them and directing their travel to keep them in the deepest part of the briar. They determine to strike out off of the road to find their way to Drummond's Point.
Eventually the heroes make their way close to Drummond's Point and meet a band of friendly Dusk Elves. The elves are lost in this world and want to get home. They know only that they cannot find their way out of the briar and that the nearby village of Drummond's Point is ruled by many powerful devils. The elder of the elf tribe, Talishstra, helps identify the sigil on the imps' necklaces as belonging to Merodach, a greater devil that was instrumental in creating the Tiefling race.
The heroes make their way to Drummond's Point and observe the place for the better part of a day. They see townspeople going about "normal" business, but they are guarded and watched over by dozens of devils. They see one may attempt to flee into the thorn briar around Drummond's Point and watch as a great devil races and runs him down with a trident. The heroes return to the Dusk Elf camp to make plans.
